A Wee Reminder

That there's school tomorrow. Probably until 12pm.

Also,

HAPPY 17TH BIRTHDAY IKHWAN!!

Monday, August 28, 2006

Okay

Today's Monday, 28 August 2006. It's supposed to be a school day but I'm at home right now. And (hopefully {because I'm a poor victim of peer pressure}) everybody else (referring to Josephians and Teresians and possibly a lot of other schools).

Why? Road block, says my dad. Why the road block? Where? I dunno, I don't care because... practically, it is a holiday.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, 29 August 2006 will also be holiday because...... Road block, says my dad.

So we'll have two days of holiday because of road block (for goodness knows what).

Wednesday, 30 August 2006, perhaps the road block situtation would be rectified by then, and we go to school for National Day celebration. We'll probably spend one morning singing patriotic songs which are only capable of diminishing whatever shred of patriotism in us. (Basically, no school on this day.)

Thursday, 31 August 2006, National Day. Public holiday.

Friday, 1 September 2006. We go back to school like normal.

Sucky ain't it........ Alang-alang make Friday a holiday.

Let's wrap it up.
Monday and Tuesday, no school due to road block.
Wednesday, technically no school also because of National Day celebration.
Thursday is National Day, no school.
Friday, go to school. (Man..........)

What a week this is gonna be..........

Make use of this extra days of holiday (yeah, I love the word "holiday").......

Study hard for the mock exam. Don't forget to pray hard also. Bleah.

Ora et Labora! Ad Majorem Fraternitas Gloriam!

The Beginning

To relieve the holiday boredom, though I suppose most of you are busy studying, I think it would be a good thing to clarify the history of our class blog. I won't embellish the facts, much as I would want to. But here it is. It's not that long, since our blog's only a year old.

Sometime in late July 2005, Pan told me something. He suggested I should start some kind of website for our class. I told him the idea was difficult, to say the least, but I made a note to look into it during my free time, which, being in Form 4, I had plenty. So, one fine day, I started figuring out how to go about accomplishing Pan's idea. I didn't know how to maintain a full-fledged website, so I considered a blog, since back then, it was a lot easier to maintain; also, with an eye to the future, Form 5 life would probably be so busy I, or all of you would be hard-pressed to update it.

I figured Blogger.com would be the best choice, but I picked it mostly because it was one of the more popular blogging sites. Moreover I had a blog of my own for some time already, so I was more or less familar with creating another blog. But the idea of a shared blog was rather puzzling then, since I didn't know the consequences or potential issues that may arise from starting a multi-user blog. As the saying goes, you won't know if you don't try, so I went ahead a picked a template, name, etc., and voila! One class blog, albeit still shaky. Over the subsequent days, later weeks, by word of mouth, mostly written on the blackboard, fellow classmates began to visit the blog, and invitations began to be accepted. Of course, a couple of months later, our counterparts across the road started one of their own, though I would point out that while our blog has yet to see a decline in active readership, theirs has been through about three 'resurrections' already. But, with apathy in mind, it's Somebody Else's Problem.

Eventually, membership grew, and I'm proud to say that we have almost 30, or 30+ brothers who are now officially affiliated with Fraternitas 5A. We're where we are now because of all of you, and not just myself. I would like to stress that while I founded the blog, it is not my sole responsibility. Rather, again, it is our responsibility to maintain this blog, hopefully well into 2010, or 2020, or even until the last one of us passes away.

For the Greater Glory of the Brotherhood!

Something to share

Always love and respect those around us when they are still
AROUND!!...
Please.... take a look at this story... its meaningful.. at least spend 5 minutes of your time...

The story is below:

"At the prodding of my friends, I am writing this story. My name is Mildred Hondorf. I am a former elementary school music teacher from Des Moines,Iowa. I've always supplemented my income by teaching piano lessons-something I've done for over 30 years. Over the years I found that children have many levels of musical ability.I've never had the pleasure of having a prodigy though I have taught some talented students. However I've also had my share of what I call "musically challenged" pupils. One such student was Robby. Robby was 11 years old when his mother (a single mom) dropped him off for his first piano lesson. I prefer that students (especially boys!) begin at an earlier age, which I explained to Robby. But Robby said that it had always been his mother's dream to hear him play the piano.

So I took him as a student. Well, Robby began with his piano lessons and from the beginning I thought it was a hopeless endeavour. As much as Robby tried, he lacked the sense of tone and basic rhythm needed to excel. But he dutifully reviewed his scalesand some elementary pieces that I require all my students to learn. Over the months he tried and tried while I listened and cringed and tried to encourage him. At the end of each weekly lesson he'd always say, "My mom's going to hear me play some day." But it seemed hope-less.He just did not have any inborn ability. I only knew his mother from a distance as she dropped Robby off or waited in her aged car to pick him up. She always waved and smiled but never stopped in.

Then one day Robby stopped coming to our lessons. I thought about calling him but assumed because of his lack of ability, that he had decided to pursue some-thing else. I also was glad that he stopped coming. He was a bad advertisement for my teaching!

Several weeks later I mailed to the student's homes a flyer on the upcoming recital. To my surprise Robby (who received a flyer) asked me if he could be in the recital.

I told him that the recital was for current pupils and because he had dropped out he really did not qualify. He said that his mother had been sick and unable to take him to piano lessons but he was still practicing. "Miss Hondorf .... I've just got to play!" he insisted.

I don't know what led me to allow him to play in the recital. Maybe it was his persistence or maybe it was something inside of me saying that it would be all right.

The night for the recital came. The high school gymnasium was packed with parents, friends and relatives. I put Robby up last in the program before I was to come up and thank all the students and play a finishing piece. I thought that any damage he would do would come at the end of the program and I could always salvage his poor performance through my "curtain closer."

Well the recital went off without a hitch. The students had been practicing and it showed. Then Robby came up on stage. His clothes were wrinkled and his hair looked like he'd run an egg-beater through it.
"Why didn't he dress up like the other students?" I thought. "Why didn't his mother at least make him comb his hair for this special night?"

Robby pulled out the piano bench and he began. I was surprised when he announced that he had chosen Mozart's Concerto #21 in C Major. I was not prepared for what I heard next. His fingers were light on the keys, they even danced nimbly on the ivories. He went from pianissimo to fortissimo...from allegro to virtuoso. His suspended chords that Mozart demands were magnificent! Never had I heard Mozart played so well by people of his age.

After six and a half minutes he ended in a grand crescendo and everyone was on their feet in wild applause. Overcome and in tears I ran up on stage and put my arms around Robby in joy. "I've never heard you play like that Robby! How'd you do it? " Through the microphone Robby explained: "Well Miss Hondorf . . . remember I told you my mom was sick? Well, actually she had cancer and passed away this morning. And well ...she was born deaf so tonight was the first time she ever heard me play.I wanted to make it special."

There wasn't a dry eye in the house that evening. As the people from Social Services led Robby from the stage to be placed into foster care, I noticed that even their eyes were red and puffy and I thought to myself how much richer my life had been for taking Robby as my pupil.

No, I've never had a prodigy but that night I became a prodigy. . of Robby's. He was the teacher and I was the pupil. For it is he who taught me the meaning of perseverance and love and believing in yourself and maybe even taking a chance in someone and you don't know why.

Robby was killed in the senseless bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City in April of 1995.

otherwise they wont be happy,
we pay their salary still make us angry.
that's why i wanna study hard to earn more and more money

Tiap-Tiap hari feel so lazy,
never try to wake up early,
always hope college sekarang cuti,
everyday go to class feel so sleepy,
lecturer always scold me lazy.
do assignment just like to copy,
before the final just feel worry,
every nite study until crazy,
because scared scold by mummy.

Why my class always no pretty,
those elephant always show me how she's sexy,
the monster wanna treat me nicely,

make me always so lonely,
only can watch porno movie.

CS always let people bully,
maybe i am really so lousy,
althought knife people is so happy,
but i am always unlucky,
kena headshot easily,
after mati still mati.

This is just a small story,
typed it simply,
feel funny and happy,
actually i am not lonely,
because I have many friends around me

HAPPY 17TH BIRTHDAY SYAZWAN!!

Happy Holidays!

A belated post; was supposed to be up yesterday, but time didn't permit me. So, yesterday, a sizeable portion of our class participated in the English Club's 'General Knowledge Quiz'. However, a small portion of us facilitated the event. I can't remember everybody, but here's who I can recall:
Alleem, Fahri, Zacky, Haziq S., Asyraf, Nizam, Syazwan, Zulkipli, Syafiq, Mark, Aziz, Haafidz, Qhairy, myself, Jia Wern, and Jeremy. Agan, Richard, and David were part of the facilitators/organising team.

Anyway, it was rather enjoyable, for my part, even if my team finished 3rd. Fahri/Allem/Zacky got 2nd; we gave them a run for their money in the tie-breaker, but mad props to them for winning! Asyraf/Haziq S./Qhairy got 1st. Basically, 5A swept everything for the Form 5 category, and that rocks most of all.

That aside, enjoy your holidays! This is our last respite before the mock, better get cramming.

Let me comtinue too...

Well.... Not only Javier has something to say about Pn. Kang last Friday (yesterday). I have too...

It seems that not only Javier and myself who got commented by Pn. Kang yesterday but also Mr. Darry. I was quite surprised that Pn. Kang would say something like that and I really didn't expect she'd say something like that in front of the class. It's ok if she keep it to herself or anyone she ould trust but in front of our class?! Who knows that one or a few of us are close to Mr. Darry and feels that it ain't right for her to say that. She maybe right for saying that Mr. Darry is wrong for not following the "Buku Panduan" but what if he does? What if he knows better that she does? I'm not saying she's wrong for not accepting mine, Fahri's and Jonathan's Interact Club KK marks but what she told us sounds not right.

What Pn Alice told me, Chan and Fahri was she said Pn. Kang and her have come to an agreement about the Bonus marks. And she said that Pn. Kang met her the day before (Thursday) was about the Bonus marks. Pn. Alice said Pn. Kang only wanted to talk to her about the Bonus marks and she told us Pn. Kang didn't mention about the Pencapaian marks. So, I was quite surprised by what she said that morning. And I was agetting a little pissed off by her.

Well... I feel sorry for Javier after what Pn. Kang said to him. I know he was sitting there looking at me us (the gang playing the guitar) and he pula got scolded. I'm really sorry man!

Anyways, I also got the news that she was upset with the Prefect's marks too and she actually scolded Norman for giving some of the prefects high marks. I guess there's nothing else we can do about it. She's our form teacher and she has the power to change our marks. Too bad lo.....

"Yes Ivan???"

This is a prequel to

"Yes Javier?"

On 18 August 2006, it rained!!! Hooray! Indeed, it was going to be, it was supposed to be a good day because the rain alleviated problems caused by the haze.

First two periods of that day (Friday) were BM. Ivan went up to teacher to hand in his BM karangan. Good for you, Ivan. Jolly good. ;-)

And then, when Pn Kang took his book, she had to say this:

Oh, no wonder it rained this morning!!

What on earth is her problem??????????

Ivan is doing something good for a change!!!!!! He deserves to be commended and what did he get?????? A F***ING insult smacked up his face. He so kecil hati already. I see only also can feel geram.

d-_-b^^^???

"Yes Javier?"

Pn Kang shook her head as she started to chide me (with snide remarks):

Yes Javier?!! YOU and that group of boys over there?!!
Your attitude is going from A to B to C!! You are becoming worse everyday!!

She scolded me today in front of the whole class. So memalukan embarrassing degrading abasing drop my water face only.

The worst part is, I AM innocent, free of guilt, untarnished, sinless!! (Hyperbole intended.)

Here's the story:
I saw Isaac and Ivan holding guitars and they were playing soft music. (Isaac, Ivan, David, Matthew, Noel, Richard were sitting in a group near me). I leaned over a table and listened. Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton. Ah, nice music. After a few moments I got there, then Pn Kang exploded.

What is the .........., ............ ...... .......... ........... ......... ........ teacher's ........ problem???????????
(Feel free to fill in the blanks)

I Can't See Clearly Now

The haze is getting worse. Kuching's API was about 115. You could see the haze in the stadium this morning during assembly. Plus it was extremely hot, which we had to endure, as usual, along with the long-winded speeches and whatnot. One thing of note: I wonder when they'll think of putting subtitles in the videos that they keep showing us. Any idiot with common sense would know that the stadium acoustics are atrocious. Personally, I think it was no different than watching a foreign film. Actually, if you typed gibberish out for subtitles, it would pass for a foreign film. But then, who really pays attention to the videos?

Reminders:
1)BM Essay, due TOMORROW
2)English summary
3)History handout homework, complete whatever's left

National Anthem

Negaraku
Tanah tumpahnya jerebu
Rakyat hidup
Sesak nafas dan layu
Rahmat bahagia
Penjual topeng muka
Raja kita kena pakai juga

To the tune of 'Negaraku'

Masks

Hey guys, just a reminder, bring your masks to school tomorrow ya...

Miscellany

Today started off as usual in the hot, humid conditions caused by the haze. Bloody Kalimantans and their poverty-forced method of farming! Anyway, during PE, Philip broke/dislocated his left ring finger. Thankfully, he was quickly sent to the hospital. One thing of note I would like to add was the apparent reluctance of nearby Red Crescent or St. John Ambulance members going to his aid. Aren't they supposed to be trained in First Aid? If you hesitate during emergencies, I personally don't think you're fit to be a medic.

That aside, reminders:
1)History handout homework
2)Physics homework. I think the Essays and the Structure questions seems to be for the Lower 6-ers, however. Can anyone corroborate this? And read up on Chapter 4, Form 5. Apparently there's a test tomorrow
3)BM Essay, due Friday
4)Apparently, we're supposed to wear masks tomorrow, to throw off Pn. Goh and maybe other teachers. So get a mask if it's possible
5)Bring your Maths exercise book and a 50-sen coin tomorrow

Lost Voices and Homework

Looks like a couple of teachers are losing their voices. Ms. Mah totally lost her means of verbal communication, and Mdm. Alice is about to. Pn. Kang might be if she keeps raising her voice above ours. Wonder who else is gonna lose theirs? Pn. Goh maybe? But let's not go around cursing people. Must be the haze; it's getting worse.

What gets even worse? Our pile of homework. Reminders:
1)Maths 'homwok'
2)Physics, a bucketload of work to be done by Thursday:-
Essays, pages 46-48; Structure questions, 168-170, 212-213, 234; Chapter 9 revision exercise, 437-445.
3)History handout homework
4)Bio extra class tomorrow

A Birthday and Homework

The haze is getting worse every day. And tonight, the moon's a sickly orange colour. The sun this morning was a pale, watery yellow. Any thicker, and we'll probably get school cancelled, though I doubt that.

The band boys are back, though only Isaac bothered himself to come. And we got first alright; beat the runner-up by about 1 or 2 points, or so I've been told. It's a really tight competition. But, they'll be off to the Internationals next year, I think. I'm sorely lacking on details, perhaps someone else would care to furnish them?

And it's Jonathan's birthday today. Good man Jonny.

HAPPY 17TH BIRTHDAY JONATHAN!!

Which brings me to my last point, reminders:
1)History handout homework
2)BM handout homework
3)Maths 'homwok'

Street Soccer Debacle

Two noteworthy things today. Firstly, our school band won 1st Place in the Nationals. Now, this means one thing in terms of bragging rights:Our band is finally the best in the country!! On to more local news.

During PE, our class squared off against 3C. Unfortunately, we were soundly beaten by them, in the style of Costa Rica-Germany. The scoreline? 4-2. The first two goals were very well played. Beautiful, one might say.

Reminders:
1)Chemistry experiment tomorrow, bring your cams if you want
2)Maths 'homwok'
3)History handout homework

Content Control

I don't know how often you guys read the papers, but apparently, our "beloved" government is doing a crackdown on blogs that display libel/slander/lies/untruths/deceits....you get the idea. And they're relying on reports from the public to help them. Now, I know the worst we've done is diss teachers, but after our school magazine goes public, readership's probably going to rise. And then, all it takes is one accidental post, and we're in deep shit.

I'm not saying we should stop posting altogether, but common sense will dictate that you watch what you're posting. With the expected rise in readership after the magazine comes out, comments about teachers are going to be flying around. Not that the negative publicity is bad or anything, but we're probably gonna get in trouble soon enough.

Sigh, looks like we'll have to take down that poll on 'Least Favourite Subjects'...or maybe not, just to check reaction.

Oh, new jokes are up.

Reminders:
1)Do your Math 'homwok', OK? And bring lots of A4 paper, we're still doing the same lengthy exercises

Saturday, August 05, 2006

Another Weekend

The band boys are getting ready to leave this Sunday to Kuantan, Pahang for the Nationals. All the best, guys!

Reminders:
1)Chemistry handout

Happy Firefox Day

Whatever that is........

It's all over the place dawgs......

It's Firefox Day today. Bleah, who would have thought.....

Well, I would like to comment a lil bit about SJS Kuching.

Lousy canteen food.

Blasted dirty toilets. (Pass motion at school can also habis my selera.)

But, there are plenty of good stuff all around that overshadow the two examples of our school's downsides.

Good stuff such as:
  1. Good friends.
  2. Good classrooms.
  3. Good teachers.
  4. Good looking girls.
Yeah, I love Saint Joseph's.

The 5A Awards

We got our Bio 3 papers back, now only English remains, and then we'll know where we stand. But, on to more interesting things today.

We were treated to a performance by our school band before they head off for the Nationals some time in the future. I dunno, but to be honest, it wasn't that good. Maybe it's the heat, or maybe it's some other factor, but it wasn't that much of a performance. Sure, the formations are impressive, but is that enough? Looks like more training is needed before you guys go try for second, or maybe first place, eh?

After PE is always the best time. Today we sang 'She Will Be Loved' while we changed, or walked around shirtless. There was much fun but I won't go into details, you guys know what crazy stuff you did.

Oh, and today we kicked off our own Achievement Awards. About 6 categories have been completed, but we'll save it for our yearbook. Which reminds me, I personally haven't submitted my profile yet.

Hmm, aside from that, reminders:
1)Chemistry objective paper handout
2)Maths 'homwok'
3)History handout homework.
4)Yearbook profile, guys. I'm not sure of the layout; ask Isaac or David.

The Brotherhood is...

A year old! Yup. 365 days have come and gone. And we're still kicking, still strong, and we've never slowed down so much until it halts and dies. And it's all thanks to all of you who've done your part to keep it running. Let's hope it goes on for years to come.

Good reception, lots of posts today, so I'll keep mine short; just a couple of reminders, is all.

Reminders:
1)OK, you people need to do your Math 'homwok, OK? OK, bring lots of A4 paper tomorrow, OK? And graph paper also OK? No need to bring the textbook yet, OK?
2)Chemistry, that handout Pn. Voon asked us to do.

Kau : Kau jangan bohong! Aku telah mengetahui bahawa kau adalah 'random' yg mempunyai janji-janji manis yg bergerak secara rawak.

Aku : Itu adalah fitnah yg telah tersebar melalui proses pencaran dan perolakan.

Kau : Tetapi, mengapa kau membuat tempoh perkahwinan kita mengalami rintangan?

Kau: Kau membuat kemarahanku meruap-ruap. Nanti bila tekanan ku melebihi tekanan udara, kau jugak yg susah kerana aku akan mengalami hemolisis.

Aku: Aku sekarang bukan aku yg dulu lagi, aku telah mengalami plasmolis.

Kau: Kau betul-tul menyakitkan hatiku ini. Ku sangkakan kau intan, tetapi rupa-rupanya kau grafit. Pergi kau dari sini. Biarkan aku sendirian...

My First Ever Blog....(here of course)

Hello, guys. This is the first time I'm blogging here so maybe I need to get familiar with blogging in here. I have been reading a the class blog from time to time but I had never, ever...ever posted a blog here.

Maybe as a start, I'll just post this blog of mine, about the Einstein riddle thingie. I don't really know what on Earth struck Mr Cheng into giving us the riddle. Anyway, see these:

Actually, there's a few variation as the answer for the riddle considering a few factors. One of them is:

Fact num. 4. The green house is on the left of the white house

You can assume that the green house is directly on the of left of the white house or anywhere to the left of the white house....

Fact num 9. The Norwegian lives in the first house.

It is not known where does this first house is located- is it located on the first location on the left end of the row of houses or the other way round.

I've googled the solution for the riddle (I know this is cheating my way out) and found out that...Yes, there are a lot of variation in ways of solving the riddle...and answers too.
May be, einstein wasn't refering to the people who actually found the right and logical anwer (maybe there's no specific answer after all) when he said 2% of the world population can solve this. Maybe he'd refered the 2% to people to who never ever gave up in searching for the solution for the riddle. Probably, the 98% of the population he said are people just gave up before finding their own logical answers (Yeah like me...I'm one with the 98%)

OKAY...in addition to my first ever blog, I would love to introduce to you guys some good sites
(if you know it, just ignore it)

1. A cool 3D database of the Universe...extremely cool but make sure you have a really fast computer when using this...the database is huge...and its FREE!!

www.shatters.net/celestia

2. A site to download a FREE flight simulator for you people who owns low ended PCs. Pretty fun and I would say pretty customizable too. It has a huge fanbase on the Net and guess I'm part of it.

ysflight.com

Besides that, I'm currently building a site so that I can compile my blogs and journals scattered all over the Net in one place. It shall be available soon by googling for "syafsanai89", but it's currently not visited by a Google spider so it might not appear on the search results page. Have patience, it's just a matter of a few more days or weeks or months. I'm not giving out the address yet coz of personal matters.

class T-shirt ...and something intersting
