The Beginning
To relieve the holiday boredom, though I suppose most of you are busy studying, I think it would be a good thing to clarify the history of our class blog. I won't embellish the facts, much as I would want to. But here it is. It's not that long, since our blog's only a year old.
Sometime in late July 2005, Pan told me something. He suggested I should start some kind of website for our class. I told him the idea was difficult, to say the least, but I made a note to look into it during my free time, which, being in Form 4, I had plenty. So, one fine day, I started figuring out how to go about accomplishing Pan's idea. I didn't know how to maintain a full-fledged website, so I considered a blog, since back then, it was a lot easier to maintain; also, with an eye to the future, Form 5 life would probably be so busy I, or all of you would be hard-pressed to update it.
I figured Blogger.com would be the best choice, but I picked it mostly because it was one of the more popular blogging sites. Moreover I had a blog of my own for some time already, so I was more or less familar with creating another blog. But the idea of a shared blog was rather puzzling then, since I didn't know the consequences or potential issues that may arise from starting a multi-user blog. As the saying goes, you won't know if you don't try, so I went ahead a picked a template, name, etc., and voila! One class blog, albeit still shaky. Over the subsequent days, later weeks, by word of mouth, mostly written on the blackboard, fellow classmates began to visit the blog, and invitations began to be accepted. Of course, a couple of months later, our counterparts across the road started one of their own, though I would point out that while our blog has yet to see a decline in active readership, theirs has been through about three 'resurrections' already. But, with apathy in mind, it's Somebody Else's Problem.
Eventually, membership grew, and I'm proud to say that we have almost 30, or 30+ brothers who are now officially affiliated with Fraternitas 5A. We're where we are now because of all of you, and not just myself. I would like to stress that while I founded the blog, it is not my sole responsibility. Rather, again, it is our responsibility to maintain this blog, hopefully well into 2010, or 2020, or even until the last one of us passes away.
For the Greater Glory of the Brotherhood!
