2007 - A Year in Review

Let's do this differently than the last two years, owing to the fact that we're no longer together physically as a class.

Thanks to Ivan, Fahri, Jardian, Pan, Javier and Chan for picking up the slack while I was away for NS earlier this year. Great effort guys.

Alright, most of us went to a lot of places all over the whole to further our education. So far, I don't think any of us are working full-time yet. Maybe in 4-6 years we'll get jobs.

Hmm, there isn't much to say about the year, besides personal experiences which I don't doubt that many of us put in our own blogs, accesible through the sidebar.

Right, what I want to say most is this:
I'm glad to say that most of us are still able to come to the Class Gathering on Christmas. I understand that some of us had our own family gatherings and were unable to attend, but it's alright. This year's gathering was somewhat last-minute, so there wasn't much time to plan it. However, a number of us suggested that we do this EVERY year. And I am proud to say we'll give that a shot. It's probably the only time we can all be able to gather together at some restaurant and talk and laugh like we're back in class (And probably more lame ikan bilis jokes from Isaac).

So, the tentative idea is to have a class gathering every year in December, because that's probably the only time where most of us are back home. Of course it's impossible to put down an exact date to celebrate each year, but I think perhaps the last two weeks of December would be fine. Keep your eyes peeled every December in the class blog for dinner updates. It's unfortunately probably the only time that the class blog is actually active, but I guess it's better than being dead. Oh, and I'll put up the usual Status Updates twice or thrice a year. Check the class blog every December every year, alright?

It's been a hectic year for all of us, I suppose, what with getting used to Form 6 and College life. But I think we've all got our own experiences this year that made us much better. Here's to a better new year; a year of opportunities and good health.

As Ivan always says, we're Brothers 4 Life.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

2008!!!

Hey guys! It's your boy Ivan here!

Anyway... Since we're ushering the New Year, why not new image for our blog too? I've found a nice blogskin and I'd like to know who many of you would like it as our blogskin. So, guys, pay a visit to our experiment site. I've revived the link to the Experiment site so you can click on it. It's somewhere in the link box.

Chow to the cincau!! XD

5A '06 Christmas/Class Gathering

After a year of going our own separate ways, we managed to gather together on Christmas Day to meet up and regain a little of that feeling of being in 5A again. It took a lot of effort, but the results were quite good. We met up at The Living Room at 7:30pm, with a total of 17 people turning up. Wish the rest could be there, but we know some of you had to go back to kampung, or had family dinners, or just couldn't be contacted. Maybe next year. Yeah, we should have this every year.

Before we move on to the pictures, I'd like to give my Special Thanks to the following for turning up, because it wouldn't be possible for the night to happen without you guys:
Isaac Lawai
Chan Kok Ann
Kelvin Fong
Aaron Goh
Marcus Yu
Mohd. Fahri
Matthew Ting
Ivan Marland
Richard Liaw
David Ling
Alfarouq
Javier Teo
Abdul Aziz
Haziq Shahren
Philip Phang
Jardian Tay

Right, pictures time. Honestly we didn't take much, because we were all busy laughing at Isaac's ("L-A-M-E!" - Ivan M.) ikan bilis jokes, or busy catching up with old buddies.

Happy time!

Very nice!

Right, after that we had a little sticky situation with the bills where we had to deal with a mystery dish that nobody ordered. It didn't take too long before the matter was settled amicably, and we did not pay for that mystery dish. That done, we went our separate ways again, though a majority of us went to Gizmo Gamers(?) at Jalan Song and played a round of DotA until midnight. After that, we all went home, and it was a good night. We should do this again next year, hopefully with more people back home.

my life in Auckland,New Zealand

Hi everyone.

In a previous post,Shaun was asking me to describe a bit on my life in Auckland,New Zealand.Well,it's a really long story, but I'll cut it short to avoid boredome.

I'm not going to lie,I do enjoy studying in Auckland, but I'm not all excited about it.I do not know the specific reasons for that.I think maybe Auckland wasn't my choice to study in.I was actually hoping for Christchurch. However, only University of Auckland has my prefered course but not Christchurch. So,since that's the case,I have to study in Auckland.Secondly, maybe it's because of my college.I don't really like my college because there's some sort of bias treated to certain students which makes me even lost interest to study in Auckland.Thirdly, the cost of living in Auckland is very high because it's a big city.

However, those can be considered my 'downs' in my life.If there's downs, there must be up.I made with really nice friends there. We're really close like siblings.Besides that, teachers in my college were really nice.Too bad the non academic stuff wasn't as friendly as what they do during the first few weeks of college.

I stayed in a student apartment for the year. It's 3 times bigger than your house storeroom. It's just basically a room of my own provided with basic facilities (desk, chair, study lamp, bed, cupboard, heater).I shared kitchen and toilet with my flatmate. So,basically only 2 person in an apartment with 2 separated rooms.

I've met some SJS seniors and a St3 girl there.Hehehe....Those SJS seniors are Roger Bobson, who's under JPA studying mechanical engineering and Viveon Tan,who's under Petronas studying chemical engineering.Who's that st3 girl?..hahaha....It's Abigail Yong.I met her only once throughout the year.I went to Pakuranga to pay her a visit and she brought me to her church to have some fun and I had.HAhaha....thank you Abby for that time.I really appreciate it.

I get lonely and homesick at times.Well, that's pretty natural because it's my first time leaving my family and friends for a long time in a far place. Thanks to the latest technology,I'm able to communicate with them easy and fast. However, internet is quite pricey at NZ but electricity is super cheap.

What do I eat normally?Well,I usually eat 3 meals per day.Sometimes I just eat 2 by skipping lunch.I only eat an apple for lunch for the past few days before the finals are over.Well,an apple a day keeps the doctor away. =P

How's my college timetable?Well,I go to college at 8.30am until 4.30pm.Sometimes I go to college a bit late like 9.40am.From the very last term,my timetable has changed and I usually end at 3.15pm.Monday's the best.Go to college at 8.30am and ends at 10.50am.After that,I can go back!...ahhahaha....I walk to school everyday. If I'm in a hurry or lazy,I'll use the bus.Hehehe...

What do I normally do during my free time?Well, you all won't be believing me when I say it,but it's true.Only 4 things...laptop,sleep,study or walk around the city.I don't watch TV and listen to radio for months because my apartment doesn't provide such facility.Well, there's a TV room down at the ground floor, but it's always been locked up....how am I going to watch movie like that?...doohh!!...

Ok.I think that's basically my life in Auckland for my foundation year.Depressing life eh?...hahahah....well,that's what i did and I survived!...hehehe...ah well, that's all from me now.See you and take care...if yoy have any further questions or advice or suggestions,do not hesitate to ask.Thank you.

From,
Chan Kok Ann ( Kelvin )
